What are global neighbours?

At our school Global Neighbours are a group of children in the upper juniors who run worship sessions each term to educate the whole school on national issues. These children want to address social injustice so that all global citizens can flourish

Christian Aid offer an accreditation to become a recognised Global Neighbour school. Their scheme aims to increase pupils’ understanding of the root causes of poverty and injustice, as well as engage and empower pupils as agents of change in the transformation of our world. The scheme supports  the Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development of pupils, strengthens the ‘promotion of fundamental British Values’, promotes critical thinking across the curriculum and strengthens links with the local community. Global Neighbours can also enhance Religious Education provision by increasing pupils’ knowledge and understanding about why and how Christians, along with people of other faiths and those of no faith, want to change the world to one where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty where everyone can flourish.

By helping pupils to claim their voice as global citizens, participation in the scheme  helps  pupils to become active global citizens and courageous advocates for change in the world, from a local to global and international level.

What our global neighbours have informed us about so far this year:

Term 1 - Climate Change

This term, our Global Neighbours led the school in learning about the importance of tackling climate change. The children explored why burning fossil fuels harms the environment and discussed practical actions everyone can take to make a positive difference. The leaders made sure that the school gained a deeper understanding of how small everyday choices can protect the Earth for the future.

Term 2- Operation Christmas Child

This term, the Global Neighbours focused on helping children around the world. They organised our school's participation in the Samaritan's Purse 'Operation Christmas Child' project and led a whole-school worship to explain what items could be included in the shoe boxes. We received a generous number of donations, and these shoe boxes are sure to bring joy to many children this Christmas.
