Nursery
This term, the children have been learning about all things that come with a new season, with the topic title of Sunshine and Sunflowers.
In the first two weeks the children learnt about the life cycles of butterflies and frogs, with the story books ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and ‘The Teeny-Weeny Tadpole’ to introduce these with. The children made butterfly paintings and frog faces.
Next, the focus turned to seeds and plants, and the story ‘Sam Plants a Sunflower’ inspired the planting of sunflower seeds and cress. The children painted some impressive sunflowers which helped to decorate the nursery.
The children then learnt about sun safety, which was timely with the improvement of the weather! They sang a song to help them to remember where to put sunscreen and explored different kinds of clothing to wear for protection too.
Finally, the children were introduced to Peter Pan and his shadow, and this led to exploring shadows in the garden. This was paired with the theme of reflections and creating some self-portraits. The children also loved exploring the pirate ships we have in the nursery, as these feature in the story too.
In addition to this, we have continued with learning more sounds from Read, Write Inc phonics scheme; explored subitising from 1 to 5 (this means recognising the amount of objects there are without having to count); learnt a variety of finger and action songs related to our themes and much more.
