At our school we put a real emphasis on developing children's spelling from EYFS through their reading. Children are taught sound recognition and blending through the Read Write Inc programme which supports early spelling.
As children progress through the school, they learn spellings each week which they are tested on and their scores are sent home to parents. You can find the spelling lists we use for each year group below.

At our school we celebrate achievement and effort in spelling each term with a class spelling star. We have a display in school to celebrate this and children who are selected each term will also bring home a certificate to celebrate their success. Lots of rehearsal at home is the key.
