Our Curriculum

We adopted a curriculum which is published by Cornerstones. English and all foundation subjects: History, Geography, Art, DT and Music are taught through our termly theme. Cornerstones provides our children with a good level of challenge, giving them opportunities to solve problems, apply themselves creatively and express their knowledge and understanding across the full range of National Curriculum subjects.

LKS2 will experience 3 Imaginative Learning Projects in a year. Each individual project is split into sections, which see children progress through four stages of learning: Engage, Develop, Innovate and Express. Our curriculum instils a curiosity and love of learning/school in our children. It helps them maintain their well-being and provides opportunities for each of them to achieve their full potential. In every lesson and homework piece, we make sure that there is an accessible challenge to extend learning and we even have a termly curriculum challenge for all the whole school to take part in! We have a daily maths lesson that is taught using our school scheme ‘Third Space Learning’.

Our Topic for Term 1 & 2: Ancient Civilisations

This term, our exciting history topic is all about Ancient Civilisations! We will explore:

  • Daily life in ancient Sumer and ancient Egypt: Learning about what life was like in the ancient civilisations.
  • History & Artefacts: Looking at the inventions of the people of ancient Sumer to see how these impacted their way of living and have changed over time.

Key Texts We Are Reading:

  • Secrets of a Sun King - Emma Carroll
  • Casting the Gods adrift - Geraldine McCaughrean

In our class we need to bring our PE kits in on Tuesdays and Fridays.
