Term 5 - Can you tell me a story?

This term in Reception, our topic was Traditional Tales. We explored a range of well-known fairy tales and used these stories to inspire our learning across the curriculum. In English, the children enjoyed creating their own new characters and thinking carefully about their appearance and behaviour. They used their ideas to write descriptive sentences and practised joining two ideas together using the word “and”. We shared and explored familiar stories such as The Three Little Pigs and Goldilocks and the Three Bears, building houses for the three little pigs and designing new outfits for Goldilocks.

In Maths, we focused on shape and number. The children explored how shapes can be rotated and combined to create pictures and new shapes. We also developed our understanding of number bonds and used this knowledge to write number sentences by combining numbers to make new totals, linking this learning to the way we combined shapes in our practical activities.

In Religion and World Views, we listened to stories from a range of different religions and discussed the messages within them. The children thought carefully about how these stories relate to their own lives and experiences and shared their ideas thoughtfully during class discussions. We also talked about how they can influence our experiences in the future.
