This term, St Andrew pupils have thoroughly enjoyed exploring our exciting Blue Abyss topic, discovering the wonders of the world's oceans through a range of creative and engaging activities.
In Literacy, we explored the beauty and power of the sea through ocean-themed poetry, using descriptive language, imagery, and figurative techniques to bring the underwater world to life. We also developed our non-fiction writing by creating fact files about fascinating marine creatures and ocean habitats. As part of our research, we wrote biographies of famous oceanographers, learning about the important work they have done to help us understand and protect our oceans.
Our creativity continued beyond the classroom. We designed and built our own submarines, thinking carefully about how they could explore the deep sea. In art, we carefully sketched a variety of sea life, paying close attention to shape, texture, and detail, before using watercolours to paint stunning ocean landscapes, inspired by the colours and movement of the sea.
One of the highlights of the topic was our trip to Hastings Aquarium, where we came face-to-face with an amazing variety of marine life and discovered even more about the creatures that live beneath the waves. We finished the day by enjoying the sunshine on the cobble beach in Hastings, making wonderful memories together while appreciating the beauty of the coast.
The Blue Abyss topic has inspired curiosity, creativity, and a greater appreciation for our oceans. We are incredibly proud of everything the pupils have achieved and the enthusiasm they have shown throughout this exciting learning journey.
