    Term 5

This term our topics in the nursery have been ‘Sunshine and Sunflowers’ and ‘Spring’.

The children have been learning about how plants grow from seeds, what they need and how to look after them. They planted their own beans and sunflowers too, which they took home to care for. They explored different fruits and vegetables and did vegetable printing, as well as paintings of sunflowers.

In the second part of the term, the children were able to watch caterpillars in the nursery grow into butterflies, before releasing them into the garden. Next we looked at the life cycle of frogs. The children enjoyed making frog collages, singing frog songs and jumping around pretending to be frogs! Finally, the children learnt about the life cycle of a chicken, watching a video of chicks hatching. They learnt the Makaton signs for egg, chick and chicken. We also explored other animals that hatch from eggs, like birds, dinosaurs, penguins and bees.

As well as all this, the children explored dot patterns, subitising to 3, and puzzles. They learnt more sounds from our phonics scheme and some of our older children began to write their names ready for school. With all the usual singing, dancing, music and art, it has been another busy term!
