St Andrew
In term 5, we have been learning about Potions. We began with a curiosity trail, following clues to lead us to our first book. Can you guess what it was? We have really enjoyed the practical elements of this term as it has involved lots of science experiments. We have been learning about solids, liquids and gases and how to work scientifically. We started by sorting and categorising containers based on whether they contained a solid, liquid and gas and investigated safety labels on chemical containers. We created a safety Label for the potion bottle from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and discussed whether or not we would drink the shrinking potion. We have carried out two comprehensive science investigations to investigate our key questions: Are all Liquids Runny? and Is Custard a Liquid? We were very surprised with our results! In addition, we read and learned about Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. We created poetry based on the witches spell in Macbeth as well as making heart shaped chocolates to demonstrate our knowledge of changing state. We have used our inspiration this term to work collaboratively to create a piece of artwork by melting wax crayons with a hairdryer. As part of our enterprise learning, we have used our new scientific knowledge to create bath bombs by combining ingredients and following instructions. We have then independently labelled them according to the safety labels we had previously created. It has been a jam packed, fun filled term.
