St Patrick
School Days
This term we started our new topic 'School Days'. St Patrick's took part in a memorable experience where we visited St David's class in the juniors in the older part of the school to see what a Victorian classroom would have looked like. We later had Miss Strachan act as a Victorian style Headmistress where she had the children doing exercise drills and read from the school's Victorian punishment book. The children were also amazed to see a cane that would have been used back when the school first opened over 125 years ago.
In Maths the children have been learning their 2, 5 and 10 times table. They learnt how to cut shapes and items in half and quarters and have focused on using positional and directional language.
In Science the children learnt about the parts of plants and have grown their own edible cress plant and also Teddy Bear sunflower plants. They planted and looked after them very well at school.
In P.E the children have been learning how to play tri golf and rounders. In Art the children have been looking at street art and had a go at memorising how the school building looked from the playground and then tried to draw the school from memory.
It has been a very busy term, the children have amazed us with the progress they have made this year and now we're in the summer term we can see just how much they've grown. Next term we will continue our School Days topic and will begin to learn about animals in Science, dance and sports day practise in P.E and we'll be making our own healthy food in Design and Technology.
