St Martha
In Terms 1 and 2, the children in St Martha learned all about 'Britain at War'. They looked in depth at World War 1 and 2 including the causes, what life would have been like during the war - including for evacuees - and how people survived. The children wrote a variety of genres including historical narratives, newspaper reports, diary entries and letters as well as poetry and persuasive speeches. The topic exposed the children to a world of politics and the children learned about some of the tough decisions leaders would have had to make during this time, which they then compared to some of the tough decisions that are made in the 21st Century by world leaders. Finally, we researched weaponry and their uses. The children were interested in discovering that there were various weapons used during the war, with some even being invented and adapted whilst the war was happening.
