St George
During Terms 1 and 2, the children immersed themselves in the fascinating topic of 'Dynamic Dynasties.' They explored significant periods of ancient Chinese history, with a particular focus on the Shang Dynasty. Their learning included investigating Yinxu, a significant archaeological site, studying oracle bones, religious beliefs, and bronze artefacts, and learning about the life of the great military leader, Cheng Tang. The children worked hard to write their narrative poems inspired by Mulan by Barbara Laban and science fiction narratives that incorporated elements of the Bronze and Sunflower story by Cao Wenxuan, blending cultural and scientific knowledge. What the children enjoyed most, however, was designing and creating their own taotie clay artefacts, inspired by the intricate casting methods of the Shang Dynasty.
The children have had a fantastic start to the year, and we look forward to continuing this exciting journey of learning!
