St Augustine
Invasion
In our topic, Invasion, St. Augustine have really enjoyed learning new information and applying it in various mediums.
In literacy, St. Augustine were very enthusiastic about writing their own Norse myths and non-chronological reports all about Viking life. Similarly, the children worked really hard on their fantastic Anglo-Saxon poems about dragons which included terminology from the Anglo-Saxon era!
In history, they have explored the effects of the Roman withdrawal from Britain, the chronology and geography of subsequent invasions of Britain that led to Anglo-Saxon and eventually, Viking rule and examined primary and secondary sources. Meanwhile, in geography, the children have explored North & South America and the United Kingdom including its countries and cultures and made interesting fact files about them using computer research.
Science has been exciting throughout terms 1 & 2. Firstly, the children studied the digestive system and conducted an experiment using eggs where they became bouncy! Next, St. Augustine found out about eco-systems and how food chains and webs work and loved drawing their own food webs based on an animal of their choosing.
St. Augustine's favourite subjects during terms 1 & 2 were definitley D.T. and art whereby they designed their own healthy snack packages for popcorn and even made their own fruit kebabs to eat! Furthermore, the children got to weave yarn onto a loom resulting in colourful creations.
Overall, St. Augustine have thoroughly enjoyed the 'Invasion' topic and have worked really hard to shine during terms 1 & 2.
